A4 paper is defined by ISO 216 of the International Organization for Standardization, with a specification of 21cm × 29.7cm(210mm × 297mm). The paper size used in most countries in the world adopts this international standard. This standard was originally incorporated into the DIN (DIN 476) by the Weimar Republic in 1922, although some of the formats were developed by France at the same time, but have since been forgotten. ISO 216 defines three sets of paper sizes A, B, and C. Group C paper sizes are mainly used for envelopes.
The aspect ratio of group A paper size is √ 2:1, and then rounded to the nearest millimeter value. A0 is defined as paper with an area of one square meter and an aspect ratio of √ 2:1. The following paper sizes A1, A2, A3, etc. are all defined as folding the paper with the number one less along the long side and then rounding down to the nearest millimeter value. Group B paper size is the geometric average of Group A papers with the same number and one less number. Before the popularity of printers, B group paper was mostly used. Group C paper sizes are mainly used for envelopes.
the People's Republic of China national standard GB/T 148-1997 "printing, writing and drawing paper format size", and ISO216:1975 is not equivalent to use.
